A juicy and simple to prepare plate consisting of beef strips marinated with soy sauce, ginger, garlic and ponzu sauce.

The following ingredients are designed for a yield of about 5 very hungry people.

INGREDIENTS

  • 250 grams/0,5 of beef strips (you can either ask the person that sells you meat to cut it into strips or buy 250g of carpaccio and cut it into thin trips later)
  • 2 fists of basmati rice per person
  • fistfuls of cilantro
  • (OPTIONAL) black pepper or any spice you like

FOR THE SAUCE

  • 3 Inches of ginger, thinly sliced
  • 2 or garlic cloves, thinly sliced
  • 3 spring onions + a bit of their greenery, thinly sliced OR 2 white onions, thinly sliced (white onions are usually stronger

  •  soy sauce
  • ponzu sauce

PROCESS

  • STEP 1
    toss the beef strips inside of a medium-large baking tray with tall borders along side ginger, garlic, onions and fill 3/5 of it with soy sauce and the remaining 2/5 of it with ponzu sauce. leave it to marinate for about 40 minutes.
  • STEP 2
    when the meat is almost done marinating start cooking the rice in a medium large pot filled with boiling water, once the rice is done cooking take it out of the pot and place it in a bowl
  • STEP 3
    while the rice is cooking set up a medium-large skillet and heat it up until it’s hot, then toss the meat and the sauce you used to marinate in in the skillet until it’s cooked to your preference
  • STEP 4
    serve the meat and rice separately, garnish the meat with the remaining cilantro and a bit of scallions if you wish.

Tips & Notes

  • while editing this page in search of some shortcuts or corrections I noticed that this recipe is very difficult to mess up, the only thing you have to be aware of is how cooked you want the meat
  • you can change the type and amount of spices used in the seasoning and marinating process to please your own tastes
